Shanghai is ‘mafan’

A great word to know if you ever visit Shanghai is ‘mafan’, which basically means ‘annoying’ or ‘troublesome’. Everything here is quite a bit more mafan than I’m used to. For example, there is serious construction going on everywhere around me, including right above my friend Matt’s apartment where I’m staying. Every morning I wake up to ‘bam-bam-BAM’ ‘zzzzRRRRRRzzzz’ and other wonderful sounds – the noise is unbelievably loud, so I’ve started sleeping with my headphones on which helps a little.

Regardless of the mafan here, I’m having a fantastic time – Matt and his girlfriend Vicky have been showing me around this massive, chaotic city, and I’ve been enjoying every minute of it (except perhaps the morning parts).

Malaysia Part 2 – Malacca Town

Thursday, Trey and I traveled to the south coast of Malaysia to visit ‘Malacca Town’ (Bandar Melaka), a small but beautiful beach city that has provided a wealth of great photo opportunities. I’ll be here in Malacca until Saturday, then I’m off to Shanghai!

Malaysia Part 1- Kuala Lumpur

I’m currently sitting in my hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, waiting out a heavy rainstorm, so I thought I might post a few random pictures I’ve snapped in the last couple of days. My vacation has been great so far, although getting here was quite grueling (3 flights, ~30 hours of travel, and a missed connection in Beijing!).

More Stephanie H

I had quite the adventure running around with Stephanie this weekend taking photos. We visited several interesting locations, including the ‘Cathedral of Junk‘ and the remaining rubble of ‘The Bitter End‘ restaurant which burned down a couple of years ago and is finally being demolished. Not only is Stephanie a great model, she’s a great photographer as well, and has been teaching me all kinds of new things about model photography and photoshop.

Model Shoot – Stephanie H

Here are a few photos of Stephanie, most of which I snapped Saturday night in a snazzy restaurant called Imperia located downtown in the warehouse district (highly worth checking out, it’s quite amazing!). This was an incredibly challenging shoot for me as all of the photographs were taken at night with portable strobes, and I have much to learn about using flashes properly. Still, as you can see, it was impossible to take a bad picture with such a beautiful subject and venue.
